Room 113 is almost ready for all of the children to come and begin learning! We have many exciting things planned for this school year - our first special unit will be reading and learning all about farms and farm animals. We will also spend much of our time learning and practicing our classroom procedures and rules as well as working on some of our coping skills.
We have a field trip planned for September 18 to the WL Outdoor Education Center for some science activities. The entire cost of this field trip is being covered by a mini-grant to our programs from the WL Foundation for Excellence. (More info to come!)
Students and families are invited to visit our classroom on Wednesday, August 30 between 3:00 and 5:00.
Our Curriculum Night for parents will be on Wednesday, September 13 from 6:00 - 7:00.
I hope to see you all soon - I am excited about this wonderful group of students in our classroom this year!

Camp Week!
Camp Week was a lot of fun. We brainstormed a big list of names for our camp and then voted on our favorite one. We decided to be called "Camp Cookie"! We made lanterns and used them to read camping stories with.
We were busy with many crafts. We used a big rubber fish to create colorful fish prints. We made beaded necklaces and books about woodland animals.
We also created little bird feeders to take home.
Of course, it wouldn't be camp week without making s'mores!!!
We were a wonderful class of very happy campers all week long!
It was great to see all of the children really shine in these past few weeks of school - I have seen so much growth and progress and have enjoyed them all so much! They had a wonderful field trip on Friday, and we have had a wonderful Camp Week this week - I am so thrilled that the year ended so well for everyone!
I would like to wish you all a wonderful summer break. It has been a joy and honor to teach your children and I have loved spending time with them and getting to know all of my families. I will miss those students who are moving on and will keep them in my heart always. Please keep in touch - I love hearing how my former students are doing. For those who are returning in the fall, I am excited to think about our school year ahead! I will see you all on September 5 for the first day of school!

Our Field Trip to the Outdoor Center
We had a great field trip to the Outdoor Center today. I was very proud of how well our students did today. They were able to really sit and listen during the lessons - we learned all about animals and their adaptations. We looked at fur skins, skulls, beaks and feet...
We met a live gecko - his skin helped him hide.
We went out for a little hike and saw some bee houses with worker bees. Back inside, we were able to try on beekeeper clothes and taste real honey from a honeycomb! We also discovered a plant covered with aphids, and some lady bugs who were eating the aphids.
We made a fun craft, tried on bug eye glasses and had fun eating lunch together!

Field Day was GREAT!!!
Our Field Day pictures tell the story....
We have been busy learning about frogs and other amphibians. We drew and labeled frog diagrams in our journals...
We made lily pads and frogs after we read that frogs like to sit on logs and lily pads to breathe air. This project involved using tracers and cutting circle eyes from squares of paper...tricky, but we persisted!
Next Friday, June 9, is our Field Trip to the Outdoor Center. Students need to bring a sack lunch and drink - it is helpful to pack it in a bag that can be thrown out. Please put your child's name on the bag. We will not have a snack, so make sure your child eats a good breakfast. Children should wear close toed shoes - we will be inside and outside during our stay at the Outdoor Center.
***Please be sure to return the permission slip.***
