Center Time is Learning Time

We have Center Time every day - sometimes we have it once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Although this may seem like just play time for your children, it is a very important learning time. Children are assigned to a different center on a rotating basis. They may not get the center that they were hoping for, or we may ring the clean up bell before they are done playing. Transitions can be challenging, but this is a great opportunity for us to practice all of the coping skills we have been learning about. We anticipate how we might feel when play time ends and practice which coping skill we will use before we even begin to play. We also work on using toys and games the correct way, how to use our words to resolve problems and how to clean up and put toys away neatly. Your children have all come a long way with these skills, and are able to be more independent during our Center Time activities.

We will have our Valentine's Day party this Thursday afternoon, following our Block recess. We made our Valentines mailboxes today and are excited about filling them up with valentines cards!

We have worked on "worrying" in our Skills for Learning lessons. Sometimes when children look and act angry, we learn that there is an underlying worry. We encourage the children to use their words and tell us what is bothering them so that we can help solve the problem. I am excited that so many children are independently  using deep breathing, or belly breathing, to handle upset, angry and disappointed feelings. They feel really proud when they can do this!
